How To Get In Touch With Your Creativity
What a creative weekend it was!
Saturday I spent the day on a short film shoot with the award winning film maker Gary Hegedus. Sunday I put the finishing touches on a piece of furniture that I made for a friend. The photo above is me as a Senior Sargent sorting out a distraught member of the public.
What about your creativity?
Before you launch into “Oh but I am not creative!” I will insist you have some creativity. Your creativity comes out in the way you sing to your kids/grandkids, the way you talk to your dog, the way you cook foods, the funky dance moves you do (regardless if people are watching or not!)
Everyone has some element of creativity. So how can you tap into it more often?
I know I like tapping into it because it is very meditative. I am exhausted from “doom scrolling” and seeing how messed up the world is. So spending time with a fun bunch of actors, directors, and background crew is energising. Putting in some earplugs and spending a few hours sanding, gluing, and polishing a huge chunk of wood keeps me in the moment.
There is many an outcome of my creativity I look at and think, “Well that’s rubbish” and there are also pieces I look back on and think “Wow, that’s pretty awesome”.
So How Do You Get Creative?
This week I would love to you to consider how you could tap into your creativity and flex that muscle a bit more. It will help you consider different work approaches and really hone your problem solving skills. Plus you may find yourself having a little fun!
Start with spending a little more time with activities you already like. Don’t worry if you don’t think it is any good. It is a start to spend time doing it. Maybe seek out others who do it to and spend time with them. Painting, poetry, acting, improv, knitting, drawing – there are no limits to what you can do and it doesn’t take much to start. Just set aside some time and start.
Let me know how you go and what you do!
