Are You Brave Enough to Fail and Not Torment Yourself as You Do?

The pandemic is still with us so I tried a few new treats over the weekend. The bread came out a treat. Cooking creamed rice in a rice cooker? Not so much!

As you can see, the milk burn and it stuck to the bottom. What you don’t see is the overflow of the boiling milk, the milky saturated tee-towel and a less than wonderful aroma that filled the house.

Ah well.

You see, I have cooked enough recipes to know that sometimes they don’t work. I am not sure why but sometimes things just don’t turn out as you plan. So today I tried cooking the same thing but in the slow cooker, not the rice cooker. It seems to have worked better.

The good news is that I didn’t call myself a “bad cook”, I didn’t berate myself for ruining a relatively simple recipe and I didn’t make a big thing out of it. I gave it a go. It didn’t work so now I am doing something different. It is progress!

I am not sure when I realised it, but it seems to me that it is unrealistic to expect to be an expert as something you have never done before. But this is an expectation I used to have of myself.

You better believe that over the last few years, I have made some mistakes when hosting events. Mastering online events meant a lot of little mistakes and some biggies. But it is about not making the same mistakes and learning what to do differently. I also think sharing your experiences with others so that they can learn from it is also a good thing.

What about you?

Are you brave enough to give yourself permission to fail and then continue on after you do? Can you celebrate your failures on your journey to success? You will find the path a whole lot quicker and more enjoyable if you do!
