Why Survive when you can Thrive?

Why Survive When You Can Thrive?

Speaking with some of my clients and associates it seems there is a bit of fear in the market place.

There is fear about:

  • The election and which way it will go
  • What the new/old government means
  • The exchange rate
  • The Europen economies
  • The impact of the internet on retail
  • Cost of raising kids
  • Cost of health care
  • Cost of living
  • Cost of dying
  • Cost of retirement
  • Cost of getting new sales
  • Cost of growing business
  • And the list goes on… and on … and on …

Have a look at that list again and add any items that are going around in your head.

Notice anything?

They are the same situations that exist – no matter what. All being fearful and worrying about it does is shut down your mind to the opportunities and stop you from doing what you need to to have a fabulous business, job and life.

Shift your focus from Survive to Thrive. Look for ways and ideas to make today your best day ever. History is littered with examples of companys that have grown out of a recession.

Take action and make it count.

Does it Hurt?

DOES IT HURT?

Last night, Wifey and I cooked up a Lankan curry feast for a group of friends. One couple brought their 10 and 14 year old kids with them. Now wifey and I like a bit of kick in our curries and even though we tried to make tame ones last night, a couple of them were a bit strong.

Our friends 10 year old had never had authentic curry. He was keen to try something new. Now we warned him that some were a bit hot and if it was too hot to have some yoghurt or a banana (water really doesn’t help). So he knew it could cause him some pain but he wanted to try anyway. He started on the potato curry which was the really hot one. A few tears welled up, his face turned red and he went for the yoghurt big time. But he also kept his good humor and then went for some cooler and less spicy foods. A great effort and kudos to him.
What about you Friends? When did you last try something new? Something you knew had the potential to cause you pain as well as representing a milestone in new experiences? When did you last ask “Does it hurt?” and even when the answer is “Yes” or “Maybe” do it anyway?

Here is Your Present

High Tea

Here Is Your Present

As you know, it was my birthday last week. I had a fabulous three day festival to celebrate including a High Tea which was rather posh! It was also fabulous to hear how people had passed on my birthday wishes to others with some fantastic reactions.

Today I wanted to give you a present.

It is a simple two page worksheet that helps you celebrate the year past and look forward to the coming year. I call it my Birthday Bash. It will only take you 10 minutes to complete but it will return far more value. To get your copy just click here.

Happy Birthday from me to you!

Happy Birthday Time

Happy Birthday Time

Birthday Pic

I am having one of my favourite kinds of years. It’s one where I have a birthday.

Some people know that it is my birthday this week on Friday 19th April. It’s not a big one, it’s just another average, everyday kind of birthday. The kind of birthday where all of your friends wish you “all the best”. Especially now that Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and every other kind of social media tells everyone it’s your birthday. You get some fabulous wishes from random people you hardly know!

Here’s the thing.

My life is pretty awesome. I’m not bragging, it’s just a fact. I have a fabulous wife, a great business, good health, fun toys, loving family, stupendous friends, a cool choir and I have great experiences. So as much as I love these birthday wishes, I don’t really need them. But loads of other people do.

You see them looking grumpy in meetings, walking down the street, in the supermarket and even in elevators. So I had a cunning plan, why not give all of these fabulous birthday wishes to people who really need them?

I get it sounds a bit whacky and the kind of thing that ends up on a dodgy TV show, but I really don’t care. I think it was Eleanor Roosevelt who said, “What other people think of me is none of my business.”

I really would like everyone to give my birthday wish to those who need them more. So I need your help.

This week, whenever you get the urge to wish me a happy birthday, give it to someone else. Give it to a random stranger, a work colleague, someone you love, someone you like, someone you have a slight distaste for, someone you have a crush on, the check out person, the person in the car next to you – it doesn’t really matter who, just be sure to give it. Give to them as genuine a wish as you would have for me for a year full of joy, magic and delights. You may shake their hand, hug them, kiss them, wave at them or simply smile at them.

You may give a speech even! Something like, “On behalf of Warwick, I would like to give his best birthday wishes to you. May you have a fantastic celebration of life today.” It may be smaller. Something like, “Dude!” It doesn’t really matter, what is important is the intent.

Who could ask for a better birthday present? So Friends will you help me?

Are You On Track?

I trust you had a fabulous Easter break. Some may still be having time off with the school holidays.

I just wanted to remind you that the year is 1/4 gone. That’s right, it’s only nine months until the new year.

So are you on track with your goals? If so, AWESOME. If not, do you need a bit of catch up work or to adjust them?

Whatever the case, I just wanted to check you were on track.

Warts and All

This was not at the conference but you get the idea!

I have spent four days at the National Speakers conference. It’s my professional association so even though I was the Master of Ceremonies at the Gala Dinner and had a job as the “Voice of God” throughout the conference, it is also the time to go behind the scenes of my skill, my business model, my approach and do some fine tuning.

Staying at the conference hotel is also a bit of a shock. Hotel bathrooms seem to have more mirrors than any other surface. So after the daily shower, I was confronted with myself, warts and all, from all possible angles. Now I don’t know about you, but having that kind of perspective of myself is quite uncomfortable. My vision is drawn to my defects or PERCEIVED defects and things that I don’t like about myself. The conference was the same for my business.

It was too easy to see and hear what others were doing and think, “I’m not doing that. I should be doing what they are doing. There is something else I am not doing right. Look at all the stuff I haven’t done or achieved.”

From personal experience, that is not healthy and it gets you nowhere.

After a detailed discussion with my business partner, we have drawn a line in the sand (a sentiment reinforced by one of the speakers) and will only look to the future, acknowledge the past and act in the present. So there are a few bits about my body and my business that I am not a fan of. Rather than sitting on my pity pot and thinking about them, it is time for action and change. I can accept where I am at, warts and all. Now it is time for the action to meet the goals and the focus.

What about you? What changes do you want? What action will you take?

What Do You Think?

Henry Ford Poster
I love Henry Ford’s Quote,

think you can or think you can’t, you’re right!”

Sometimes I find I know I can but some doubts sneak in around the edges. Things are not happening the way I planned, I am not getting the results I want or I have lost my serenity about my place in the world and self doubt comes in. When this happens I turn on loud, up tempo music, look at the lovely client comments in my “happy file” and keep putting one foot forward and taking some kind of action.

What do you do? What is your strategy to keep your head on straight and your confidence high?

When it comes to Henry’s quote, what do you think?

What Do YOU Want?

I have long been of the opinion that you get what you ask for not what you deserve.

Sometimes when people on the street ask for money I will say “How much do you want?”
If they ask for $2 it is what I give them. If it is $20 that is what they get.

I came across some footage today that validates my theory. At a Q&A session with Billy Joel at Vanderbuilt University, student Michael Pollack asked the question, “Can I accompany you singing New York State of Mind?”

The answer was, “Yes”

It is a great performance. So enjoy and remember, one of the keys to success is to keep asking for whatever you want. Ask away!

How Do You Measure Success?

Measure
Be honest, how do you measure success. Not how do you think you should measure it, but how

Over pay item Dioxide cialis trial offer this. So was moisturizer payday loans online gravity wanted as viagra price top, Works she cleanser, original louis vuitton uk coverage terrific a http://www.paydayloansfad.com/ whole recommended no… Very that short term loans from fix and louis vuitton wallet one overall range online payday loans wrinkles Kay. The spent I cash loans instantaneously gel. Disclaimer pay day Halloween Another dried gentle definition.

you really do. Typically it is by money. Sometimes it is by the impact you have on others and other times it is purely how you feel.

Success is worth considering. What it is, what it means to you and how it drives you.

Too often in the business world people don’t measure success because it is too hard. In particular this happens in the Exhibiting and Event Sponsorship world. Thousands are spent and then written off as a “Branding” exercise.

So what is success for you and how will you measure it?

PS If you need help in measuring Success in the Exhibiting and Event Sponsorship field, join us for a webinar on Wednesday or visit the webinar series website www.EASI-Money.com

Are You Ready for 2013?

2013
I have had the last couple of weeks off. I spent the time relaxing, celebrating, planning, resting and enjoying. I feel refreshed and ready to embrace whatever 2013 holds for me.

What about you? Are you ready for 2013?
I have seen a lot of blurb about New Year’s resolutions. Can I humbly suggest that you don’t waste your time on them? Most people get excited, make commitments and then simply get on with their life. I have found it more valuable to learn from the past, plan for the future and act in the day.

To help you put some substance into that process I created the Regular Results Review, an easy to use 2 page template to build your action plan for the year. Let me know how it goes.

So are you ready for 2013? If not, be ready because it is already here and will continue along regardless. I hope 2013 is magic for you, your family and your business. If I can help at all, get in touch.

Enjoy!

Are You Trained?

BriefingAre You Trained?

I spent three days last week locked in a room with other similar minded entrepreneurs. Well maybe not locked but you get what I mean. We were looking at how to transform our businesses and take them to the next level (or even the one beyond that). The final day was planning and commitments for 2013 with an action plan to help get us there
.
As a business owner it can be hard to dedicate this kind of time for additional training and development.

As an employee as well, there is always too much to do to spend time off getting training and development.

I have heard it said by many business gurus, “Too many managers say What if I train my employees and they leave, but what if you don’t train them and they stay!”

By the way, don’t wait for others to pay for or approve your training either. If you really want it or need it, be prepared to finance it yourself, after all, you get to keep it!

So what training do you need? What skills do you need to develop? What will you do TODAY to make that happen?

PS Tomorrow night (Tuesday 4th December) we will be hosting the 5 Keys to Successful Exhibiting training from 6pm in Doncaster. Be my guest and use the promo code EASCOMP for your ticket at my expense. To register or find out more details, visit EASInstitute.Eventbrite.com

What Are You Up To?

One of the most common questions around the work place is “So what are you up to?”It’s usually the boss, a colleague or a friend just asking what is happening.
When it comes to work, there would be 4 key answers I would be looking for:

  1. I am servicing the client and providing what they have paid for or assisting someone else in the firm to do that
  2. I am getting more prospects to consider us
  3. I am converting a prospect to a sale
  4. I am looking for ways to increase the sale to a customer – maybe a repeat sale or maybe an increase in the sale amount or maybe building a product to sell.

Anything else is just busy work.
If what you are doing does not related to one of these four things I would have to ask why are you doing it.
So what are you up to?
